FENERBAHCE ‘DENY’ MAKING BID FOR CHERMITI

Reports from Turkey have denied that Fenerbahce had a £13million bid rejected by Rangers for Youssef Chermiti last week .

The Portuguese youngster joined Rangers for £8million-plus add-ons from Everton in the summer and he has only scored four goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. 

News of the offer from Turkey had surprised fans when the story broke on Tuesday night.

Now, however, it would appear that Fenerbahce are looking to distance themselves from a potential transfer for the 21-year-old. 

Turkish journalist Erdem Akbas – of A Spor – had been reporting on the speculation and he revealed: ‘Fenerbahçe club officials contacted me regarding the news.

‘Youssef Chermiti was brought up on the recommendation of his agent, but there was no interest. This name is not on their lists.

‘Fenerbahçe management is focused on high-profile names for the striker position.’

Rangers have also reportedly rejected an offer for Djeidi Gassama from Monaco.

Kasper Hogh of Bodo/Glimt after his side’s victory over Manchester City

STRIKER HOGH LINKED WITH CELTIC SWITCH

Celtic have made an enquiry for Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh but face competition from a number of clubs across Europe, according to Sky Sports.

It’s reported that the 25-year-old remains a target for Norwich City and that Høgh’s future will be decided later this week after their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

Høgh scored twice last week in Bodo/Glimt’s 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City.

Celtic after still desperate to add to their squad in this transfer window.

HIBS KNOCK BACK BID FOR MULLIGAN

Hibernian have rejected a £1.9million offer from German side Schalke for top prospect Josh Mulligan.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who has been compared in style to Aston Villa’s John McGinn, has been outstanding this season, drawing enquiries from the likes of Celtic and Leeds United also.

However, Hibernian don’t want to sell in this window. Mulligan is also recovering from injury at the moment after damaging ankle ligaments. He hopes to recover quickly to stake his claim for Steve Clarke’s World Cup squad.

36-YEAR-OLD BANNON MOVES TO MILLWALL

Former Scotland midfielder Barry Bannan has completed his move from Sheffield Wednesday to Championship rivals Millwall.

The 36-year-old, who has signed an 18-month contract at The Den, spent a decade at Hillsborough, during which he made over 450 appearances for the Owls.

Millwall director of football Steve Gallen said: ‘I’m really pleased to bring Barry into our football club. He’s a player that myself, manager Alex Neil, and football fans all over the country have admired for many years.’

Bannan, who was given an emotional send-off by Wednesday fans after their defeat at Bristol City last weekend, is available for selection for Millwall’s home clash against Sheffield United on Saturday.

COSTLY ERROR AS STRANRAER ARE BOOTED OUT 

Stranraer have missed out on an estimated £200,000 windfall against Rangers after revealing that an SFA tribunal decided to expel them from the Scottish Cup

The League Two club revealed on their website that they have now paid the price for fielding an ineligible player against Queen’s Park had come through.

That means the Championship side will take their place at Ibrox on February 8 and reprise last season’s fifth-round meeting when the Spiders beat Philippe Clement’s men 1-0 in one of the cup’s biggest-ever shocks.

Stranraer said: ‘While we believe the circumstances surrounding the breach were unfortunate and exceptional, we recognise that the responsibility for player registration and selection ultimately rests with the club.’

Goalkeeper Lyndon Tas was signed on loan from Hearts on the day of the game, saving a penalty in the shootout after a 1-1 draw at Stair Park. The tie had originally been scheduled for the previous Saturday, but was called off because of a waterlogged pitch, and cup rules say only players registered for the original date can play in the event of postponements, abandonments or replays.

Stranraer’s statement added: ‘This will come as an immense disappointment to all our supporters, staff, volunteers and players, particularly in view of the incredible effort to win our tie with Queen’s Park and the rewards that a tie against Rangers would bring.

‘Naturally, we share this disappointment, particularly given the positive progress being made both on and off the pitch this season and would like to offer our sincere apologies to everyone involved with the club.’
