Tyrese Maxey, short-handed Sixers fall to Trail Blazers
Feb. 10, 2026, 12:31 a.m. ET
The Philadelphia 76ers paid a visit to the Portland Trail Blazers looking to finish their West Coast trip on a high note and get a little greedy. The Sixers entered with a 3-1 record on the trip and were in position win four of the five games, but it would be a challenge for Philadelphia with Joel Embiid, Dominick Barlow, and Quentin Grimes all sidelined.
The Sixers got off to a good start as they built a 10-point lead, but a poor third quarter did them in as the Blazers won the third 49-22 on their way to a 135-118 win. Portland received 30 points from Toumani Camara as he stepped up on the offensive end while All-Star Deni Avdija added 26 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
The Sixers were led by Tyrese Maxey with 30 points and four assists, Kelly Oubre Jr. added 19 points and four steals, and Trendon Watford had 12 points. Justin Edwards had 10 points and VJ Edgecombe had 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Here are the player grades following the loss:
Tyrese Maxey: B-plus
The star guard was aggressive early in this one. The Blazers have long, lanky defenders that can bother opponents on the perimeter, but Maxey’s quickness made a difference in this one as he was able to get to the rim and come up with some impressive finishes against Portland’s size. He was constantly in the paint making things happen for Philadelphia offensively either with his own scoring—which he did a lot of –or with his passing as he made the heads up play. His 3-point shot in this one wasn’t there as he had a tough time converting, but Maxey had a solid night on the offensive end.
VJ Edgecombe: C-minus
When the Sixers needed some offense from the perimeter with Maxey resting, Edgecombe stepped in and gave Philadelphia a big boost in the second quarter. His ability to get into the paint and just pull-up for jumpers is a big aspect of his game. Overall, Edgecombe was able to contribute in a number of ways, but his shot wasn’t there in this one as outside of the good second quarter, it was a tough night for him.
Kelly Oubre Jr.: B
The 11-year veteran continues to make an impact for Philadelphia and is playing the best basketball of his career. He knocked down a wing triple in the early going as his 3-point shot continues to make a difference for this group. He was able to bother Portland’s ball-handlers on the perimeter and make an impact on the defensive end. Oubre has had some really good stretches in his career, but the one he’s on right now with the Sixers is probably the best he’s ever played.
Trendon Watford: B
Moving into the lineup for the ill Barlow, it was a solid night for Watford. The 5-year forward provided a little bit of everything in this one. He handled the ball, ran some offense, and gave the Sixers some scoring as well. When Philadelphia is getting this type of performance from a guy like Watford, it makes life easier for everybody on the floor. He has filled in quite nicely for the suspended Paul George. He is the type of player the Sixers have been in need of for some time now.
Andre Drummond: B
Getting the start in this one, Drummond was able to make an impact on the glass, per usual. The Blazers have an obvious size advantage and they are a team that attacks the glass with aggression, but Drummond did a solid job of holding his own in that area. He had a tough time defensively against Portland big man Donovan Clingan, though, as the second-year man got going.
Adem Bona: C-plus
The big man was bouncy off the bench. The Blazers are a tough matchup due to the size advantage, but Bona played with a ton of energy and was able to make an impact as the backup big man. He grabbed a few rebounds and had some nice finishes at the basket. Overall, though, the size disadvantage proved to be too much at times for the hard-working big man out of UCLA.
Justin Edwards: A-minus
The second-year wing player had a huge run in his initial stint. He knocked down two 3s, grabbed rebounds, and came up with a couple of steals to help the Sixers get out and run and manufacture offense in transition. He also got to the line which is a big help for the bench unit. He had a nice night as he continues to find his rhythm.
Kyle Lowry: C
Getting minutes with Grimes out, Lowry didn’t do much. He was out there to soak up minutes and buy time for Maxey and Edgecombe to get some rest. He missed an open 3, but also grabbed a rebound and made some plays for others.
Marjon Beauchamp: C
The Sixers turned to Beauchamp with the team being so short-handed and he made some plays with his passing. He missed an open look, but Philadelphia has to like the energy he played with in this one. He was solid on the defensive end. He got a bucket to fall in the second half.
